Okay! It's debate question day and I had no idea what the question was gonna be but Becca and Steph came up with one today at school! Here it is.
Okay...If you don't believe in God, just pretend you do if you wanna answer this question. The question is: Do you think that when people say "Oh my God!" (either positive or negative) is offensive? Or does it ever get annoying when people are like (quoting) "JESUS CHRIST" like when people are mad or something? I think it's just mean, I mean, people just say stuff like that without thinking.
Well that's it! =)

Hey Zoe, what was your opinion on last week's debate? Just wondering...
I say "Oh my God" all the time! I think that if your not saying it with meaning to offend, than it isn't bad.
I say Oh My God when I'm happy. I think of it kinda as "Praise God!" or "Thank God!" for what just happened. A lot of people also say Oh My God when they're scared. As long as it's not meant offensively, then I don't see anything wrong with it. I guess I think people get a little too defensive, especially if people don't even mean it in a negative manner.
I, however, don't say "Jesus Christ!" I don't really have an opinion on that one, but my Pepere always says "Geezum Rice!" instead. That Pepere.
Oh sorry I kinda forgot to mention that! Well for the whole birth control thing, I think that to obtain birth control, your parents should have a right to know. I think that girls should still be able to get birth control if they need it and are sexually active even if their parents don't agree with it but their parents should at least know. I could go more in detail with this but I don't think I need to so there you are! :)

I don't think anyone says these things to offend anyone, but of course they could be taken as rude from someone overhearing. Anyway, I don't think there's any difference in saying OH MY GOD if you're happy/surprised or if you say it if you're angry/frusterated. You're still saying the same words, and if you shouldn't say OH MY GOD in a negative manner, you shouldn't say it in a positive manner either.
I was always taught not to say OH MY GOD no matter what, so I don't. By now, it's not really because I feel like I'm desecrating God's name, but I guess it's just sort of habit not to say it and feels weird whenever I do.
Geezum Rice-- ADORABLE!
My friends used to say "cheezum" instead of "Jesus!" or sometimes "Jesum Crow!"
I say oh my god all the time. If we had to always be worried about offending someone, this world would be a borring place. Harry Potter would exist if jk rowling was worried if she was offending someone. Im not saying you guys are offended by harry potter but a lot of people are. We can't always be concerned about offending people.
I don't think people who say OH MY GOD! mean it in an anti religious/religious way, it is just an expression that so many people have lived with for so long. my view is if you find it offensive then don't say it but don't be offended when someone else says it because it isn't like they are telling you to "Go to Hell" or anything, they probably aren't thinking about what the actual words mean. Sort of like ring around the rosie you know, "ashes ashes we all fall down" yeah... that's about the black plague.
i know doesn't ring around the rosie scare you? I personally think it's really creepY!
Thats actually a really good point about ring around the rosie gaylord!
And zoe, strangly, ring around the rosie fascinates me!! :D
I think that you should respect people's views on the Oh My God issue. If you're around someone who you know is offended by it, then don't say it. But, I don't believe it is an insult to God either way and if you're around people who don't care, then you should feel free to say it!
