Hey! Today is debate topic day and also the day that I declare the winner of the Debate topic contest! We had many entrants and you will know the other debate topics in the coming mondays.
THE WINNER IS...
ALEXA!
Her debate topic about the "limbo of infants" won her first place! Here it is...
The Limbo of Infants is the idea that any babies, or infants, that were never baptized can't go to Heaven if they die, because they still have Adam and Eve's "original sin." Instead, the babies end up in the Limbo of Infants, which is like a purgatory. Although the Catholic Religion hasn't really defined this Limbo, they believe it exists. Debate whether you think the Limbo of Infants exists or not. Do some research on it!
There you are! Debate Away!

Do you think it is fair that the baby has to be punished because someone never baptized it? It isn't the babies fault! Why should the baby be punished?
Hello? Anyone there?
Yeah, even though I am a Catholic, I TOTALLY disagree with the church on this one. God is not spiteful, and I can't imagine him denying an innocent baby the right to heaven. But, what do you think about atheist adults? Do you think, if they're good people, they can still get into Heaven? This question goes to anyone. I'm personally not sure...
I belive that if there is a God, that she wouldn't send people to hell for not worshiping her. That is like Hitler killing Jews for not beliving in what he did. Any good person, regardless of there belifes, should be able to get into heaven. Though I'm not sure if I belive in heaven.
Anyone? I am curious to see where this will go.
Sorry, you can delete that. Just an impulse. Forgive me Zoe. I wont do it again.
Although I'm not sure what i believe on the terms of what happens after death (meaning I'm not sure if I believe in heaven or hell or WHAT), I think that the limbo of infants sounds like a pretty terrible thing to me. It's sorta like if you don't follow the Catholic religion, then you can't get into heaven. Which is why religion kind of offsets me here. I mean, isn't the major concept that if you don't follow the right religion, you're either going to hell or not going to heaven? I mean, does that mean that you could be a pious, quiet, peaceful Buddhist who never harmed a fly and still not get into heaven if you dont follow the "right" religion?
I know this is completely off topic, but I just thought of it and I kinda wanna know what you guys think about it.
becca, that is a brilliant debate topic! I think I'll keep that in mind to use as a future debate!

Personally I believe in a place called the Orange Zone (and no I am not speaking of the state of our nation's security). The Orange Zone is a place where everyone is admitted no matter what they did or had done to them during their time on earth (at least the time where they were in a living breathing carbon based jelly sack) The Orange Zone is a place with no conflicts but every one is still free to be them selves, who ever they are and what ever their religious affiliations were. In the Orange Religion everyone is governed by their own choices and fate dose not depend on a single god who oversees everyone and decides who dose and dose not go to "heaven". Again the people of this world make their own decisions and the consequences that follow were brought on by the people. You can choose weather to be baptized or not but in the end we are all going to die so live life to it's fullest, have a good time and don't think about where you are going to end up because in the end it doesn't matter. This is the idea that I live by and I think that it is a view that offers a less stressful and more reasonable explanation for what really happens in life (and beyond...)
Here is a saying that I think is kind of cool and is related to my view of the Orange Zone:
Life's journey is not to arrive at the grave safely in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, totally worn out, shouting..."Holy Cow! What a ride!
It is also a bumper sticker... but who cares? It helps me get through the day and not yank out my hair in fear in gym class when we play dodge ball straight boys always chuck the damn ball sooooo hard!!!
Haha Gaylord, interesting opinion. I don't think I believe in it, because I tend to believe in cause and effect. I've always thought that what you do on earth will be so important to what happens to you after you die. I can't imagine going to the same place as murderers and rapists and such when I die. That doesn't seem fair or reasonable to me. I can't imagine all the bad people in this world going to the same place as all the good people in this world. I think that people should make the most of their lives, but not in ways that will harm other people. I think that it's important to think ahead, because you'll have to deal with your choices in the long run. Again, it's all opinion, and we can't know till we die, anyway.
So i was just reading through the comments and I read Alexa's question about whether or not athiest adults should get into heaven, even if they're perfectly respectable people.
Well here's my question: What is heaven for, anyway? Is it reward for worshipping the right God, or is it reward for being a good person? What if you're a devout Catholic, but youre kinda a little kookoo in your head (if you know what i mean) and you do something like kill someone or something. {this is just a scenario}. Anyway, just because that person was part of the right religion, should they get into heaven? You would probably say no, because they did something terrible, and if they didnt regret it, they dont deserve heaven. At least, thats what i would say.
So if heaven ISNT about what religion you believe in, then why should it matter what religion you're a part of? So athiests dont have a religion. I know a lot of people who are athiests and they're all really good people. They deserve heaven every bit as much, or more so, then other religious people I know. I guess i'm getting into what i mentioned earlier. Does your religion or beliefs affect your chances of getting into heaven, if there is such a place?
the only thing i'm going to say to that becca is that if the coocoo man was a devout catholic, he would almost definatly go to confession for killing someone and do the penance requested by the priest!
what is the punishment of the pope hires seven hookers? Would that simple act be enough to send that great religious leader to hell?
I don't think the pope would ever do something like that. They are chosen a bit more carefully. And yes you could say there have been priest scandals in the past, but a pope and a preist are very different people.
I don't know if going to heaven is necessarily a "reward" or not. I see it as more of an "afterlife," just a place to go when you die. I don't think that religion grants you a place in heaven, especially since there are so many religions out there. However, the nicest people I know tend to be the most devout in a religion. It may just be a coincidence, but I think having beliefs helps guide your life in the right direction...
I think that people should be able to get into heaven if they are good people, even if they are atheists. I think that God pardons people, even if they never worshiped him on earth. The reason I wasn't quite sure before is that the whole essence of why people are allowed into heaven, according to my religion, is that Jesus died for our sins, to re-open the gates of heaven. When we are baptized, the original sin that we gained from Adam and Eve is forgiven. So, people that aren't baptized have sins hanging over them their entire lives. Is this important? I don't know. I still think that a person's deeds are the most important into the determination of whether an individual gets into heaven. That seems most logical to me.
Well if getting into heaven depends on whether or not you're baptized, then im not gonna get in....
ho hum pig's bum.
Anyhoo, i dont think that getting into heaven depends on that anyway. I agree with what you said: its the decisions you make that determine where you spend the "afterlife".
If you think about it, if the only way you could get into heaven were if you were baptized, then the only way you could get into heaven would be if you were Christian. Because thats the only religion that does that, if im not mistaken.
Okay, I just wanted to make something clear! When I said that my religion says that people who are baptized are the ones that get into heaven, I only meant that that was my religion's views! I totally know a lot of great people who are no doubt getting into heaven, and they have never been baptized! Sorry if I offended anyone that hasn't been baptized, including you Strudel.
No no i know you said that at the beginning! its okay i wasnt offended i was just making a point. :)
