Wednesday-Ash Wednesday

Heyy! It's Ash Wednesday! I went to mass this morning and all the kids at school were like "you have something black on your head!" and I was like I know and it was just really annoying! Then people wanted to know what it was all about and i was like "and you call yourself a catholic" well yeah whatever.

so here's what Ash Wednesday really is...

The first day of Lent. Named from the custom of signing the foreheads of the faithful with blessed ashes. Its date depends on the date of Easter. In the early Church, public penitents were liturgically admitted to begin their penance on this day. And when this fell into disuse, from the eighth to the tenth centuries, the general penance of the whole community took place. This was symbolized by the imposition of ashes on the heads of the clergy and laity alike.

I got that off CatholicReference.net and I highly recommend it! If you have a question, you can search it there and it'll help. I just searched Ash Wednesday cause I don't feel like explaining it!

Zoe, I think it's kinda rude if you really said "you call yourself a catholic". Some people don't know what Ash Wednesday is all about, but that doesn't make them mad catholics. I don't go to church regularly, but I still pray to God and love him with all my heart, am I a bad catholic in your opinion? I really want an honest answer.

I think you are an average catholic but not one of those one who spend every spare moment of time bragging about it and not having a social life. you seem balanced to me.

I agree with Gaylord. Trying to make a scene about your religion is fake and I think THAT would make you less of a Catholic. And Roni is right too, you need to have your own opinions rather than have them all spoon fed to you. And Zoe, I was also surprised when you said "and you call yourselves catholic." Wouldn't you rather people ask questions rather than remain ignorant? I know I like it when people ask me questions.

Okay that's soooo not what I meant! It's those people that say they're Catholics when they really don't go to church at all and don't know anything about they're religion. I don't think you can call yourself something if you don't know what that something is.

And Steph, just to clarify, you aren't a bad catholic, I never said you were. It's those people that know nothing about their own religion even though they call themselves Catholic. That's the most annoying thing. That's all I'm saying, do you guys get it?

Okay and I didn't mean to offend anyone. k?

I respect anonymousness it's just i like it better when people make a nickname cause otherwise it gets confusing.
