Wednesday-Gay Priests

Hey! I'm sooo tired and American Idol's on so I have to watch it. Btw, I don't usually watch it, it's just cause it's the finale, but I'd appreciate it if you kept your opinions to yourself about who's gonna win. I can guarantee you it's gonna be david though! haha :)

Here's the news article.

Can I ask what sexuality has to do with being a Priest? Aren't they not allowed to have sex anyway? In the bible, it explicitly says that a man may not lay with a man, and a woman may not lay with a woman. It says nothing about sexual preference. It's discrimination.

I agree with strudel and I don't think that a book should decide who we choose to lay with.

I also feel like picking and choosing Priests based on their sexuality, race, or appearance is a lot like picking and choosing who is and isn't worth worshipping God. Which I dont agree with

Yeah, I totally agree that it is really rude and discriminatory of the church to be so against homosexuals. I wonder where the church got the idea that homosexuality wouldn't be approved by God? Just because all the relationships written about in the Bible were between a man and a woman, it doesn't mean that God hates homosexuals. At that time, and for a long time afterwords, homosexuality was so strange and scary to people, so homosexuals wouldn't come out about it. That would probably be why there weren't any homosexual relationships written about in the Bible. That does not show anything about God's views on the subject. I'd be willing to bet that someone up high in the church was homophobic or something and thus decided that the church was against homosexuality. Since then, people haven't second guessed it.

Do you have a choice in what your favorite color is? Not really. You can't really help that you like your favorite color. You just do. Same thing with gays. They can't really help it that they like the same sex as they are. They shouldn't be discriminated for it either.

No person in their right mind would willingly subject themselves to the discrimination and rudeness that homosexuals face in their daily lives. The only people who think that homosexuality is a choice are straight people. Doesn't that sound a bit funny to you? Do straight people wake up one morning and decide to be straight? No. You don't decide you're going to be attracted to the opposite sex. It just naturally occurs. And homosexuality naturally occurs too.

Exactly, just like your favorite color. It comes naturally. Good point strudel! As being lesbian, I didn't wake up one mourning and make the dessision. It just happened. I tried to hide it, but AI couldn't. And I hate to think that I will not be able to get married for something that wasn't my choice. I hope I will.

I'm in full support of gay marriage. i'll vote for you! :)

Well, throughout history the majority of priests, were in fact, gay. The easiest way for gay men to meet other gay men was to join the church. Though if your a priest you really should have become one so you could worship God as opposed to just meeting other gays BUT in those times it was about the only way. Now a days, when people are a bit more free about that stuff, it probably happens rarely to not at all. But if there is a gay man who want to become a priest I'm all for it. No one should be kept from worshiping God if they want to. I believe that some person in the bible (I don't know who) said that all men are created equal. Yes the men part bothers me but still. That quote either means that homosexuals aren't human (which is a stupid thought) or they are equal. I'm going with the last bit. To be fair, anyone homosexual would have to give up their homosexuality if they were to become a priest so as to be 'holy'.

Oh, and as I side note to 'anonymous', I'm all for you. It is horrible that people don't allow you that choice and I plan on voting for gay marriage the next time that the stupid government gives me a chance. Isn't it horrible there are only two states where it's legal. I mean, it's just California and Massachusetts and that's it. We are SO unexcepting of anyone different from each-other that we just make anything that makes the rich majority of America uncomfortable illegal. But, anyway, off topic so...

Well, it seems to me that as long as straight people can get married they don't really care about gays getting married, which is wrong. It's meddling in stranger's affairs, which ties into the abortion debate. Things like abortion and marriage should NOT be the government's choice!

EXACTLY STRUDEL! This is the land of the free etc. etc. and we should have the choice!

Honestly. When we get to the core of it, we're not Americans. We're not straight, or gay, or white or black or Jewish or Christian. We are humans. Regardless of what specific type of human we are, we are all equal, and different though we are, we are all the same. Banning gay marriage is banning happiness in certain people. Is that what we want? To live our lives knowing that we are keeping people from living their dreams?

Exactly (again)! We cannot claim to be home to the American Dream because in truth we are prohibiting the happiness of so many people simply because some people are squeamish about something because they do not want people different from them to exist. Anyone should be able to do whatever they like in America (short of things that should obviously be illegal like killing etc. You know what I'm talking about). Until we get to that point we are in truth not at all the land of freedom and opportunity. America needs to change and no I am not an insane Obama supporter even though I know he will win. That is what pro-choice is about, not whether or not your for abortion even though they have coined that phrase. It is about being American, which I don't think any longer means that you are patriotic. It means you use your rights because that's all you have left.
